This Is So Embarrassing But I’m Telling You Anyway

Okay, I’m going to tell you something super embarrassing today — because I don’t want you to make the same mistake I did!

I’m hesitant to tell you this so please don’t judge me, okay? 😂 My hope is that maybe a small part of you can relate…

Here goes.

Back in May we renovated our bathroom, which is located on the second floor of our house.

Renovations inevitably cause lots of disturbance, and our cat Iggy was particularly distressed. She preferred to hide in the basement as long as the dust, noise, and yelling contractors were around.

I was concerned she might avoid her litter box (located near the bathroom in question). I didn’t want to risk her having any accidents, so I placed an additional litter box with fresh litter near her hiding place by the water heater in the basement.

Now, I want to be very clear on this (lol): Cats are creatures of habit, so she never used this secondary litter box, preferring to stick with her usual lavatory. So the basement box remained spotless and untouched.

When the renovations were finally finished, we were so excited! I cleaned the house and got rid of all the dust and dirt from the reno. But for some reason, that litter box remained in the basement.

Every time I went downstairs (which to be fair, is not all that often) I would think: “Oh yeah, I need to put that away.”

And then I’d promptly forget about it.

This went on until just last week… so like, um, four months went by!?

Then recently I went downstairs and FINALLY took care of it. Since the litter box was CLEAN (I want to keep emphasizing that lol) it took me all of five minutes to put it all away.

Four months went by to complete what was essentially a five minute task.

Yeesh.
